Scheme 91. Synthesis of 106.
Treatment of 103 with different isonitriles leads to the formation of two isomers (Scheme 92).
Isomer a is characterised by an insertion of an isonitrile in the Mn−B bond, while isomer b
contains an isonitrile bridging the Mn−B bond. The isomeric distribution does not reflect any
obvious electronical or sterical trend. Therefore, additional theoretical investigations will be
necessary. Also, the isomeric distribution is not affected by variation of the solvent or
temperature during the syntheses.
Scheme 92. Reaction of 103 with different isonitriles.
Addition of two equivalents of CNtBu to the borylene complex 53 leads to only one isomer in
which one isonitrile is coordinated to the boron centre as a Lewis base and the other bridges
the Mn−B bond (Scheme 93).
